Steppin’ Out Company Auditions:
May 2013 to April 2014
We are inviting all dancers who are 7 years and up (as of September 1st), and who have one year experience in jazz/lyrical, and/or ballet, to audition for a spot in one of our company classes. Be advised that not everyone who auditions will be chosen to join a company class, as participation requires a certain level of dance knowledge, maturity, focus and discipline. Depending on interest we are looking at possibly adding additional company levels and classes this year. Moving forward we will also be labeling each company group with a jewel name, possible examples: Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst, Crystal, Diamond.
Auditions will take place on Sunday March 24th. Dancers must come dressed in dance attire and with dance shoes (any style but no bare feet or socks). Hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or bun, and dancers should bring their own water. There is no fee to audition. Current company members must re-audition.
Sunday March 24th:
1:00 pm – Audition Class: Learn dance combo and review basic technique and vocabulary
General Company Information:
What is Company?
The goal of Company is to give students who love the art of dance a place where they can continue to grow their skills and confidence in an encouraging environment with others who share their same passion. This is a performance company, which means the focus is on performing and not on competing. We require a year of training in jazz/lyrical and/or ballet because these dance styles focus more on the technical side of dance. After taking these types of classes for a year, dancers will know if they still have an interest in joining company where they will be required to push their skills and technique to a higher level. The audition helps us to both evaluate an individual student’s readiness for company, and to create company classes with kids who are of a similar skill and maturity level.
Each company group will have a one hour class that the dancer must attend weekly throughout the year May 2013 – April 2014. Company members are also required to take one ballet class a week. Our new company classes will begin in May, and the schedule for class times will be released on April 1st (on the new summer schedule). Be advised that company class times could change slightly from the summer (May – Aug) schedule, to the Fall (Sept – Dec) schedule.
The price to take 2 classes per week (company and ballet) for a single dancer is $75 a month.
For the company, they will get a lyrical costume, a jazz costume, a company tank top, jacket, and bag. The total cost for all of these items is $200. These items will be used at various times over the course of the year. We will order everything during the summer so that they have all of their company attire as of Sept. Payment for these items must be received by August 30th.
Extra Performance Opportunities:
Company dance classes may be invited to dance in occasional performance events outside of the studio recitals. These additional performance opportunities will be optional. Practices for these performances will usually take place during the regular company class; however, at times additional practices may be necessary. Be advised that not every company class will be invited to take part in every performance opportunity that we choose to do. However, we do plan to give every company dance class the opportunity to take part in a trip to Disneyland, and a local community parade! More information on this will be provided to each company class in May. All Company dance groups will also perform at least one dance in our winter and spring studio recital.
